Law Enforcement is an exciting career. If you would like to join us there are a few things you should know.

- We completed testing for Correctional Officer on January 24, 2009. There is no date set for additional testing.
- Auxiliary Applications are being accepted for a future Auxiliary Academy. No date has been set for this academy.
- You may submit an application for our other positions and be notified when testing will be available.

Deputy Service Aide
If you are under 21, then Deputy Service Aide is a great place to start. As a DSA you may assist in Investigations, Administration, Records and Corrections.
To complete the application, you MUST:
- Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Illinois and willing to move into St. Clair County during the first year of employment;
- Be at least 21 years of age;
- Have graduated high school or possess a G.E.D.;
- Have completed 60 semester hours, or 90-quarter hours of college credit. (Trade schools do not qualify);
- Hold a valid Illinois Driver's License;
- Not hold an elected political office; and
- Be in good physical shape with height and weight commensurate.
If you fail to meet any of the above listed requirements - DO NOT FILL OUT THE APPLICATION. The application will not be accepted if you do not meet the employment requirements.

There are two ways to become a Patrol Deputy with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department. One, apply as a Correctional Officer, get hired, work the job with professionalism, dedication and pride, then test to be promoted to the the Patrol Division. Second, lateral over as an existing full-time Police Officer from another Police Department (you must be a certified Police Officer). To go through the lateral process you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a full-time certified Police Officer AND
- Earned at least 60 semester hours from an accredited college (the hours can be in any degree or program) AND/OR
- Be a full-time Police Officer employed for at least 8 years.
Auxiliary Deputies are unpaid volunteers who have a desire to serve the community, or looking to get their first taste of Law Enforcement. Former members of our Auxiliary Deputy Association serve with the Sheriff's Department, Illinois State Police, DEA and many local police departments.
