
Major James Lay is the Patrol Commander. The patrol division is a full law enforcement service ranging from crime prevention, pro-active patrols, traffic management, domestic and crisis intervention, to prisoner transporting. Several different sections of the Sheriff's Department fall under the Patrol Division:
- INVESTIGATIONS - Investigators follow up on crimes that have been reported to the Patrol Deputies - Investigators check on any leads, find witnesses, interview the suspects, and apply with the State's Attorney's Office for arrest and search warrants.
- STREET CRIMES UNIT - An elite squad of three deputies that aggressively uses pro active law enforcement techniques to target problem areas.
- D.A.R.E- Deputies teach inside the schools through class work and role modeling.
- AUXILIARY DEPUTIES - Civilians learn to become police officers, while donating their time protecting the citizens of St. Clair County.
- DUI ENFORCEMENT - Special enforcement to combat this serious problem, reduce accidents and save lives.
- K9 OFFICER - This specially trained officer and his dog, Jesse, are trained to respond to a wide variety of situations - explosives, missing persons, search and rescue. Not just for the Airport - for the entire county.
